Eldora Public Library Long Range Plan for 2014-2016              Approved 12-21-13

The mission of the Eldora Public Library is to strengthen the community by providing access to
information and ideas that enrich, educate and empower its residents.

1. Goals: The Goals of the Eldora Public Library are to:

1.1 Provide and maintain a modern library facility that delivers prompt, efficient and friendly service
responsive to users’ requests for materials and services.

To address this goal the library offers the following.
  ICN Meeting Room
  Computers with Internet Access
  Children's Computers
  Color Photocopier, Printer, Scan, Fax Machine
  Wi-Fi Internet Access
  Microfilm Reader-Printer
  Microfilm of Newspapers, Computer Search Newspapers, Census
  Hardin County Historical Newspapers Online (In-Library Access Only)
  Genealogy and Iowa History Material
  State-Owned Iowa Workforce Development Computer
  Multimedia Projector
  VHS/DVD Player with 32" Monitor
  Overhead Projector
  Slide Projector
  Toys for Children, Puzzles and Games for All Ages
  Tax Forms
  Electricity Usage Meter

1.2 Promote and encourage reading among all ages with special emphasis on preschool and
kindergarten and cooperate with educators to develop each student's full potential as a reader.

To address this goal the library offers the following.
  Interlibrary Loan Service
  Deliveries of Books to Homebound Residents (Including Valley View)
  Book Discussions
  Summer Reading Program (all ages)
  Toddler and Preschool Programs in the Library
  Outreach Programs to Daycare Facilities
  Outreach Program to Pinecrest Trailer Court
  Reading Aloud and Reading Blaster Programs (Children earn free books.)
  Materials That Include:
    Newspapers and Magazines
    Fiction Books
    Nonfiction Books
    Large Print Books
    EbscoHOST Online Magazine Service
    Bridges Online Access to Download Audiobooks and Ebooks
    E-books on Kindles
    Spanish Language Books for Children and Adults
    Audiobooks on Tape for Children and Adults
    Audiobooks on CD for Children and Adults
    Young Adult Books
    Children’s Picture Books
    Children’s Beginning Readers
    Children’s Chapter Books
    Children’s Nonfiction Books
    Children’s Magazines
    Children’s Picture Book Baskets
    Children’s Book and Cassette Sets
    Children’s Book Activity Kits

1.3 Support community, educational, civic and cultural activities.

  Book Discussions (although not regularly as in the past)
  Art Programs
  Presentations on Popular Topics
  Programs for Youth
  Summer Reading Program
  After School Programs on Early Out Days
  Halloween Party
  Santa Party for Children
  Winter Break Activities
  ICN Meeting Room for Non Library Activities
  Display Case for Special Exhibits
  Cultural Material for Checkout Including:
  Music CDs for Children and Adults
  DVD and VHS Videos for Children and Adults

Goals Year by Year

2014 Maintain Current Services Plus:
Help City Hall Add Content to the City's Web Site
Objective: The library will develop a community business directory and look into
maintaining a community calendar.
Add Programming to Educate the Public on Emerging Technologies
Objective: The library will work cooperatively with the school to connect high
school students that are comfortable using these technologies with older area
residents that want to learn how to use them.
Add Movie Programming
Objective: We will show children's movies from time to time when school is not
in session.
Objective: We will show movies for teens and adults with an opportunity for
discussion after the showing.
Repaint the Lines in the Parking Lot
Co-ordinate with Iowa Valley to Use Our Facilities for Adult Education
