MINUTES

Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees

November 25, 2008

PRESENT: Don Wilson, Mary Swartz, Kristin Gehrke, Dean Stickrod, Jill Stanish, Dan Gehring

MINUTES were approved. BILLS were approved.

Ian Rigg was present to review the budget draft for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. Raises for part-time employees were preserved; however, there may not be funding to provide more hours for the summer reading program. The amount budgeted for purchase of books was reduced from the requested $12,000 down to $8,500. Discussed potential income generated from a levy as well as possible use of trust funds to help with purchase of books. Ian will get estimated revenues from county before budget amounts are finalized.

Dan gave director’s report. Budget is on track for midyear. Friends recently donated $500 for books.

Estimates from Hewlett-Packard for the purchase of 2 general use computers, 1children’s computer and a laptop were distributed as well as a Mac estimate. Board approved the purchase of the computers recommended by Dan and Dean. Board approved using the Wal-Mart grant money for the laptop purchase.

Of the 90 families enrolled in the Imagination Library, 5 attended the party held at the library on November 23.

Discussed digitizing newspaper archives. Demonstration of Ackley system was available for viewing. Once digitized, patrons would be able to access records from their home computers. Service will cost $8, 310.00. Board approved paying for half of the cost of digitizing and seeking grant funds for the other half.
