MINUTES

Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees

April 26, 2011


PRESENT: Dean Stickrod, Kristin Gehrke, Lou Schafer, Jan Dunn, Gary Knox, Jill Stanish, Dan Gehring


MINUTES approved. BILLS approved.


Dan gave Director's Report. Atrium lights are now working; bay window lights still to be repaired. Cargill agreed to purchase a children's computer. Check has not yet arrived.


Dan will check with Ian to verify how interest from the Frey Special Trust Fund is being deposited.


Board approved raising part-time salaries to 2.75%.


Library's spring auction will be Saturday, May 14 at 10:00am. Donated items are welcome; some library equipment no longer used will also be auctioned. Board approved including the large white board, backpack vacuum, and bookends in the auction. Kristin volunteered to make two pies to be auctioned.


Dan requested 10 students for Service Day. He has not heard back from Mrs. Penning.


Discussed Library Levy. Next election is November 8. If a levy is pursued, a petition with at least 43 signatures must be filed with the City Clerk between August 29 and September 22. Ian discussed the implications of a franchise fee. If the franchise fee is put into effect, he recommended not pursuing the library levy. Instead, some of the franchise fee revenue would be directed to the library (replacing the local option sales tax).


Personnel Committee will review job descriptions and make suggestions for updating. They will soon set a time to meet with Dan for his review.


Next month board will discuss Internet Use Policy in Trustee Handbook (p.8 in Library Policy Manual). ICN training suggested referring to Library Association examples.


Dan is looking into a new company to convert newspapers to digital form. No prices available yet. Ideally, the library would have it loaded onto the city computer.
