MINUTES
Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees
October 30, 2012

PRESENT: Dean Stickrod, Jerry Trittien, Mary Swartz, Jill Stanish, Kristin Gehrke, Dan Gehring

MINUTES approved. BILLS approved.

Dan gave Director’s report. Utility costs are not too much greater than last October. Siemen’s will pay
all of next year’s maintenance cost (approximately $1600) which will help offset the increased utility
cost. Library will be covered through March 2014.

Friends $1000 donation has been partially spent on new audiobooks. New materials are getting checked
out and have been appreciated. Additional children’s audiobooks was recommended.

There have been three Family Hour programs so far. Not too many families have participated; Dan
mentioned possibly adding some programming to encourage more families to attend. Dan will check with
Tiger Pack to see if they might like to help with entertainment.

Discussed grounds and the possibility of adding more perennials next year to cut down on annual planting
work.

Discussed fall survey results and suggestions from library staff for service improvements. Kristin Gehrke
expressed willingness to help with a Young Adult book club for adults. Joan proposed a revised program
to encourage early literacy. Discussed using small incentives for rewards.

The addition of a table for working on puzzles was suggested. Dan will price tables and bring a proposal
to the next meeting. Moving the microfilm reader closer to the geneology area (and away from the
windows) was suggested. Locating near the circulation desk would enable staff to assist patrons using the
microfilm machine.

Dan will look into a doorbell or some sort of signal that could be installed to alert staff when a patron
comes in (especially helpful when only one staff is working). Dan will also check into installing a mirror
in the children’s area to allow staff at the front desk to see into the area.
