December 18, 2012

PRESENT: Dean Stickrod, Jan Dunn, Kristin Gehrke, Jerry Trittien, Mary Swartz, Jill Stanish,

MINUTES approved. BILLS approved.

Friends of the Eldora Library donated $200 for a puzzle table as well as $500 for the summer reading

program. Their gift will help pay for entertainment. United Methodist Women also donated $175.

The library will host a holiday party on Saturday, December 22. There will be singing, crafts and treats.

Discussed the possibility of pursuing a library levy. It was suggested that it be discussed further after the

library budget is turned in.

The registration procedure has been changed for new patrons. Patrons who are not local residents will be

able to access the same services as residents. It was suggested that the citizen expressing concern last

month be notified of the change. Dan said he would mail her a copy of the minutes.

January 19 in Waterloo is the Iowa Performer’s Showcase. Dan recommended that the board pay for

Susan to attend. Board approved mileage cost be covered from the Direct State Aid money.

Discussed climate control within the library. Board did not want to pursue the costly system from

Siemens. Lou will talk to Tom McDonald in New Providence about getting an estimate on creating

climate zones within the library. Lou will either bring the information to the next meeting or see if Tom

can attend the meeting.

Briefly discussed Overdrive Advantage (a service offered by NEIBORS). Board agreed that the cost was

prohibitive and will not pursue enrollment at this time.

Discussed an entry chime to alert staff to patrons entering the library. Dan found a chime that can be put

on the door with a speaker placed in the breakroom. Cost will be $25. Board approved.

Discussed mounting a mirror in the children’s area to help staff monitor that area. Dan expressed concern

that it would not be visible enough for staff to see from the front desk. Someone suggested checking into

a webcam for that area. A decision was tabled until the next meeting.
