MINUTES
Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees
June 25, 2013
PRESENT: Dean Stickrod, Mary Swartz, Jerry Trittien, Jill Stanish, Lou Schafer, Dan Gehring
MINUTES approved. BILLS approved.
Dan gave Director’s Report. Motion lights have been installed.
Discussed heating and cooling issue. Board opted to continue with current service plan without upgrading
the Siemens software.
Summer Reading Program has had 61 young people submit reading logs. Special programs have been
well attended. Lego and art times have had moderate turnouts but family hours have not been well
attended.
The mechanism for the men’s bathroom door handle broke. Tri State Lock Service (used by city) can
replace the lock for $90. Dan priced locks with keys for the storage closets in the meeting room. Those
would each be $128. There would also be a $60 travel fee and $60 service call fee for a total of $466.
The locks on the art storage closets will be keyed to match existing library locks. Susan has mentioned
that people using the room have been getting into the closets. Board approved the replacment for men’s
restroom door handle and the installation of locks on storage doors in the conference room.
The library will have a book sale during the Pine Lake Festival in July. A presenter from The Iowa
Department of Transportation will talk about early transportation in Iowa. Dan heard positive reviews of
this program from other hosting libraries.
Discussed purchase of a color copy machine. Dan had price comparisons for various machines. Board
approved the purchase of a machine directly from Kyocera. Hecht & Jiminez Office Machines from Iowa
Falls will get the machine set up. Funds will come from line items for copy machine for $700 and $1000
from furniture and equipment with the balance to be taken from the Special Library Trust Interest.
Discussed keeping the old machine until it quits or gifting it to a non-profit organization.
Discussed cost to charge for copies. Currently patrons pay 25 cents for a black and white copy. Some
board members suggested keeping that rate for black and white and raising the cost of color copies to 50
cents.
Jill requested an earlier meeting date for July’s meeting due to her vacation absence on July 30. Board
agreed to meet the week prior.
NEXT MEETING: July 23, 2013 at 5:00 pm.
