MINUTES

Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees

January 28, 2014

 

PRESENT: Dean Stickrod, Jerry Trittien, Kristin Gehrke, Mary Swartz, Dan Gehring, Jill Stanish

 

MINUTES approved. BILLS approved.

 

Discussed library budget. In order to balance the library budget and preserve part-time raises, the program budget was reduced to $600, computer update line item was reduced to $1189, copy machine amount of $700 was zeroed out; part-time salaries will be at $40,955 and books at $8000. Dan will resubmit the adjusted budget.

 

Discussed applying for a grant from HCCEF. Board approved requesting up to $5000 to purchase children’s STEM books, children’s graphic novels, Hallmark Hall of Fame movie collection, audio books and possibly large print books.

 

Board approved purchase of a new vacuum for $230. Amount will be taken from building maintenance supplies.

 

Discussed membership for Iowa Library Association. No dues will be paid at this time but may be considered in the future.

 

The Friends of the Library have agreed to donate $800 toward summer reading programs which will pay for three programs. Susan also won a drawing for an additional free program. Board approved spending $200 for purchasing materials for the summer reading program and also approved the purchase of summer reading program t-shirts (which will be reimbursable). It was suggested that summer reading program shirts from previous years could be used for Reading Blaster prizes.

 

The Friends of the Library will be having a book sale in February. Dan asked for suggestions to give the Friends for how to use the money. It was suggested that they could purchase additional books on CD for adults and children or assist with funds to match the HCCEF grant if received.

 

Dan requested the purchase of a laptop for Susan’s use. Topic was tabled until next month.

 

Dan reported that Jackie Goodman from Iowa Valley Community College District will attend the Feb. meeting to discuss the possibility of continuing educational opportunities to be hosted at the library.

 

Repainting the library parking lot lines has been added to the project list for the city crew this spring.

 

Dan will talk to the theatre board about helping publicize movies shown at the library.
