MINUTES

Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees

August 26, 2014

PRESENT: Dean Stickrod, Jerry Trittien, Kristin Gehrke, Mary Swartz, Jackie Winters, Jill Stanish, Dan Gehring

MINUTES were approved. BILLS were approved. Dan explained that the Apollo bill was less than expected due to fewer books in our catalog as a result of summer weeding.

Dan gave Director’s Report. Joan, Susan and Dan all were able to attend a Mental Health/First Aid class recently.

Dan suggested doing the Fall Survey in October so that results could be tabulated and taken into consideration for next year’s budget. Dan compiled a circulation report to show what types of materials have been checked out over the last few years.

Humanities Iowa programs have been scheduled for the fall. Mike Glover is scheduled for October 5 at 2:00 pm and Dan Kaercher is scheduled for November 9 at 2:00 pm. In addition to local advertising, Dan will contact Iowa Valley Continuing Education to get these events added to their online catalog. The library is responsible for $50 toward each programs and Humanities Iowa covers the rest.

Promise Jobs worker, Darrell, has gotten a job. Darrell’s help at the library has been greatly appreciated.

Dan compiled a list of current computers in the library. One computer is not currently working. Board suggested making due with current computers as usage has somewhat declined. Dan said many patrons come in with their own devices.

Lou Schafer resigned from the Board of Trustees. Discussed possible candidates to fill his position. It was suggested that Dan post a sign at the library seeking a candidate as well as advertising in the newspaper.

Discussed air conditioning situation and need for replacement compressor. Dan talked to Kelly Haskins from the water department and he recommended purchasing the rebuilt unit for $3916. Board approved the purchase. Dan will confirm where the funds will come from to cover the purchase.

The library’s movie licensing agreement is coming up for renewal Oct. 1. Dan said past movie showings have not been very well attended but he wanted to try a couple more before our license expires. It was suggested that residents at the local nursing homes be invited to attend. Dan will contact staff at each facility.
