Eldora Public Library Long Range Plan 2018-19 to 2022-23

Mission
The mission of the Eldora Public Library is to strengthen the community by providing access to
information and ideas that enrich, educate and empower its residents.

1. Goals: The Goals of the Eldora Public Library are to:

1.1 Provide and maintain a modern library facility that delivers prompt, efficient and friendly service responsive to users’ requests for materials and services.

To address this goal the library offers the following.
Meeting Room
Computers with Internet Access
Children's Computers
Chromebooks
E-book Readers
Google Expeditions Kit
Color Photocopier, Printer, Scan, Fax Machine
Wi-Fi Internet Access
Microfilm Reader-Printer
Microfilm of Newspapers, Computer Search Newspapers, Census
Hardin County Historical Newspapers Online (In-Library Access Only)
Genealogy and Iowa History Material
Multimedia Projector
Toys for Children, Puzzles and Games for All Ages
Wheelchair (Available for Checkout)


1.2 Promote and encourage reading among all ages with special emphasis on preschool and
kindergarten and cooperate with educators to develop each student's full potential as a reader.

To address this goal the library offers the following.

Deliveries of Books to Homebound Residents
(Including Nursing Homes)
Book Discussion Books
Summer Reading Program (all ages)
Toddler and Preschool Programs in the Library
Outreach Programs to Daycare Facilities
Outreach Program to Pinecrest Trailer Court

Nonfiction Books

Online Databases Including Chilton's Vehicle Database, Popular Magazines, and More.
Bridges Online Access to Download Audiobooks and Ebooks

Goals Year by Year

2018-19 Maintain Current Services Plus:

Microfilm and digitize newspapers 2006 - March 19, 2012, digitize March 20, 2012-2014. Around $3,000.
Convert local interest VHS tapes to DVDs.
Evaluate condition of the retaining wall and repair as needed. (Some blocks are loose.)
Look into LED lighting for the outside.
Update equipment as needed such as the older boiler.
Look at updating computers; we have some older ones from 2011.
Look at creating a youth space with new furnishings.
Look at streaming video subscription services like Kanopy.

2019-20: Evaluate and Revise

Don't pay for any more maintenance contracts on the copier. Use it as long as it works. Get a new machine if a major repair is needed. (Paid $3,293 for the last one in 2013).
