August 26, 2008

PRESENT: Don Wilson, Kristin Gehrke, Jan Dunn, Dean Stickrod, Jill Stanish, Dan Gehring

MINUTES were approved. BILLS were approved. The bill for the air conditioning repair will appear on next month’s bills.

Director’s report was given.   Harvey Hinshaw bequeathed the library $500 in his will.

Dan announced that there will be a Library Trustee Workshop via ICN at the library on November 13 from 5:30-7:00pm. More details will be given next meeting.
Dan talked to Ian Rigg, the new City Administrator, regarding the alternate library budget. Mr. Rigg indicated that the city would be using the approved budget now and could make amendments in the spring if necessary to cover the part-time employee raises.

Prior to the meeting, Don Wilson, Jan Dunn, Jill Stanish and Dan Gehring walked around the library grounds to see what work needed to be done. Jan suggested waiting until spring to replenish the mulch. Weeding and splitting hostas will be done by Jan and Jill on Monday, Sept. 1.  Proposals for buying materials for grounds will be discussed at the next meeting.

Discussed five year plan. No changes were made to Chapter 7. Dan will confirm the wording regarding the American Library Association policy listed in Chapter 8.  No changes were proposed for Chapter 9.  An amendment to Chapter 10 was proposed to include objective 10.7 regarding the library website. Final approval for the five year plan was deferred until that change was made.

Discussed possible use of trust fund money. Dan suggested a laptop that could be used by patrons in the children’s area.  Dan will check locally on laptop prices. He will also check on the availability of grant money.
