Minutes May 2009

Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees
May 26, 2009

PRESENT: Don Wilson, Kristin Gehrke, Dean Stickrod, Mary Swartz, Jill Stanish, Dan Gehring

MINUTES were approved. BILLS were approved.

Dan gave Director’s Report. A bill yet to come will be for the repair of a leaking gasket for the air conditioner.

Sunday, June 7, the library is hosting author Dennis Weidemann. There will be a slide show as well as book signing of his book, This Water Goes North. Dan suggested that the program may be of particular interest to the Boy Scouts. Jill will contact scout leaders.

The library will be having an Open House on Saturday, June 20 in conjuction with the Friends of the Library Book Sale.  Author Jeffrey Martin will be at present at the library starting at noon to autograph his new book, Lucifer’s Calling. Book sale hours will be 9am-3pm.

Dan reported that Joan and Susan had been taking an ICN course on library administration. One assignment for the course was to prepare a proposal for a new library program. Copies of the proposal were distributed. It is called “Cyber Sisters” and would involve Joan and Susan offering house calls to assist women with computer skills (using their own computers). The board consensus was to give the program a try.

Summer Reading Program schedule has been determined. The additional funds from the city will allow for some extra offerings during the program. Sheri is exploring whether there would be enough interest in a book club for older students in the program.

The library's cost of this year's Workers Compensation is not coming out of the library's general budget but rather levied for and came to $1,972.

Jill gave grounds report. Thanks to South Hardin students (and Julie Burkett) for their hard work on Community Service Day. They helped with trimming, raking, weeding, preparing the marigold bed and sweeping and washing down sidewalks. Marigolds were planted by Dan Gehring with help from Laura Stanish.  Impatiens and vinca were also planted and Jay and John Stanish assisted Jill with mulching. Jan Dunn will be dividing hostas to help fill in bare areas.

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, June 30 at 5:00 pm.
