Minutes June 2009

Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees
June 30, 2009

PRESENT: Don Wilson, Lou Schafer, Dean Stickrod, Mary Swartz, Jill Stanish, Dan Gehring

MINUTES were approved. BILLS were approved.

Dan gave Director’s Report.  Bill for repairing air conditioner was higher than expected mainly due to replacing the freon. The library may be over budget for 2008-2009 by about $500.  Ian indicated that the amount would not require an amendment to the budget.

Summer Reading Program has been going well. The Bucket Boys performance had good attendance.

Discussed the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program. Up to this point, a major funding source has been Hardin County Empowerment. They have decided to cut the program from their budget.  United Way has given $400 in past years and it is hoped that will continue. Dan will talk to Kiwanis and Dean will talk to the Rotary board about helping to fund the program.  If additional funding is needed, it was also suggested that Dan check with Wal-Mart and the McElroy Trust.  The possible use of library trust funds was also discussed. Dan wondered if perhaps the city might also be willing to contribute toward the program. Discussion will continue at next month’s meeting.

Dan indicated that the staff has proposed a revision of the computer use forms. The draft will be brought to the board for consideration.  The Mac computer is not yet hooked up to a printer. The Board authorized Dan to get it hooked up.

There will be an upcoming Trustee and Director Training in August. The closest location will be Webster City on August 4th.

As part of the city’s long-range planning goals, Ian would like to update job descriptions. Dan had discussed this topic with the staff.  Their suggestions for updates to their job description were given to the Personnel Committee for review.

Total for book sale has not yet been calculated. Sales have continued through the past week.

The newspaper digitizing project has been delayed because the Iowa Falls paper does not want to give the rights to do so.

NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, July 28 at 5:00 pm.
