Minutes May 2010

Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees
May 25, 2010

PRESENT:  Don Wilson, Jan Dunn, Kristin Gehrke, Jill Stanish, Mary Swartz, Dean Stickrod, Lou Schafer, Dan Gehring

MINUTES were approved. BILLS were approved.

Discussed library software. Dan distributed information on two systems: Destiny (being used by Ackley, Union, Radcliffe, Conrad and Grundy Center) and Alexandria (used by school library).  Mary asked about an additional system, Apollo, being used by the Traer library.  The pricing for Apollo depends on collection size; Dan will obtain estimates on this program for the next meeting. Mary will talk to the Traer library director to find out what she likes about Apollo.

Friends of the Library donated $500 for books, $500 toward library software, $500 toward the Summer Reading Program as well as $100 for Susan to attend a book repair class.

Susan applied for and obtained a grant for a set a book of books from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This collection will be on display at the front of the library through Memorial Day.

Per board approval, Adam Rains along with volunteers will repair the library’s retaining wall on Saturday, June 12.  Dan will check with Adam to see if additional volunteers are needed.

The projection screen arrived. Board discussed placement of mounting bracket. Staff indicated a preference for mounting on the east wall of the community room. Board approved their recommendation. Dan will ask Tim Harless to mount it.

Building and Grounds Committee contacted a tree trimmer but he has not yet provided an estimate. He will be recontacted.  Petunias have been planted and Dan has helped with watering and laying down mulch. Jill and Jan will work out a time to complete the remaining planting and weeding.

Board approved a library staff salary increase in line with the city’s adjusted pay raise of 3%.

Discussed updating computer monitors. It was recommended that monitors be replaced as needed in the future.

Reappointment of library board members (Dean, Mary and Jan), will take place in June.
