Minutes August 2010

Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees
August 30, 2010

PRESENT:  Jan Dunn, Kristin Gehrke, Jill Stanish, Mary Swartz, Dean Stickrod, Lou Schafer, Dan Gehring

MINUTES were approved. BILLS were approved.

Dan showed a demonstration of the proposed Apollo catalog system. Apollo offers patrons the opportunity to put their name on a reserve list for favorite authors, renew books from home and also receive an e-mail reminder for books that will soon be due.  After discussion, it was moved and seconded to purchase Apollo. Initial set up will cost $3150 with an annual maintenance of $2100.

Discussed the purchase of Heritage microfilm for viewing Eldora Newspapers from 1879-1977. Cost would be $300. This was tabled until next month. Dan will check into available grant money to help offset the cost.

Discussed book budget currently at $8,500 for the year. Board approved using up to $500/month of trust money to purchase books bringing the annual budget up to $14,500.

Tree trimming was completed.  Discussed grounds. Shirley Daleske had told someone at the library she was willing to help with the grounds. Jill will follow up with Shirley to see if she can help with fall grounds work.

Discussed replacing the projector.  The machine is still operable and so the Board decided to wait to replace it.

Dan submitted a service contract estimate from Brown Heating & Cooling. Contract was for $595 for 2011. Board approved contracting with Brown.

The search for a male Library Board member continues. Several women volunteered.  In order to try to maintain a gender balance, it was agreed that male candidates would be sought first.

Discussed power back-up for panels in the equipment room. Dan is waiting for Ben Speck’s estimate for that. Dan will check whether other city buildings have similar back-up system.
