Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees

February 28, 2012

PRESENT: Dean Stickrod, Jerry Trittien, Mary Swartz, Kristin Gehrke, Lou Schafer, Jill Stanish, Dan Gehring

MINUTES approved. BILLS approved.

Dan updated the board on the HCCEF grant status.

The library received a memorial gift in Mildred Knutson’s honor.

The city budget hearing will be March 5. Dan plans to attend.

The library has been approved for a Libri Grant of $700 (to be matched with $350). Grant acceptance packets will be sent in April. Funds must be used for books chosen from a Libri Foundation list. Dan will check with the Friends of the Library to see if they will pay the match.

Friends of the Library are planning a spring membership drive.

March library programs include readings from Laura Jackson’s book, Blurring the Lines on March 12 at 5:00pm and March 13 at 6:30pm. The library is also offering a Duplicate Bridge Night on March 22 at 7:00pm.

Dan attended a webinar/online class related to grant writing.

A computer monitor broke. Dan priced a 19” monitor through Innovative Communications for $130. Education Co-op has a 22” monitor for $140. Dan will see if Innovative will match the price on the larger size. Board authorized the purchase of a new monitor and the money will come from furniture & equipment.

Discussed ways the library can reach out to young children in low income families. Dan indicated that the participants of the Dolly Parton program did not show an increase in library useage. It was recommended that the library explore other programs that might encourage greater use of the library. It was suggested that the library could collaborate with Little Rock Ministry for a reading program in the mobile home park. Dan will check into that possibility.

Discussed policy on library book sales. The state has indicated that the Friends of the Library cannot sell weeded library books. It was suggested that the weeded books would be continually for sale inside the library for a donation. And the Friends of the Library book sale would be of only donated books. The book sale will take place during the Pine Lake Festival in July 2012.

Board reviewed the current Child Abuse Policy. Some questions were raised about the wording. Dan will check with the state library for how they have worded their policy.

Discussed library cleaning duties. Hours for cleaning have been recorded for the past few weeks; Dan will continue to have the cleaning person record her hours.

NEXT MEETING: March 27, 2012 5:00 pm.
