April 24, 2012

PRESENT: Dean Stickrod, Jerry Trittien, Kristin Gehrke, Jan Dunn, Jill Stanish, Lou Schafer, Dan Gehring

MINUTES approved. BILLS approved.

Discussed cleaning staff concerns about change to hourly rate. Dan indicated that a checklist of duties had been implemented and improvements have been noted in cleaning.  Discussed the possibility of contracting for cleaning services and Dan will report back on how the contracting process works.  Treasure Winter injured her hand and asked whether her son Chandler could assist with cleaning while she recuperates. Board said OK with her close supervision.

Dan shared that the NEIBOR subscription has increased to $545 annually. He recommended that the library continue offering the service to patrons. Board agreed to continue.

Susan has started doing a children’s library program at the Little Rock Ministry. It has averaged 4 kids with hopes that attendance will increase.

The mild winter helped with library’s utility costs. Lower heating bills helped offset greater electric costs.

The County Library Association is participating in the Family Fest on May 5. Sue Winter from Hubbard is coordinating a Book Walk.

Jan has arranged for a crew of high school volunteers to come work at the library on Wednesday, May 2. They will arrive at 8:30am to help weed, spread mulch and clean windows. Students were asked to bring gloves and rakes; Jan will also bring some. Dan will pick up bags of red cedar mulch. Jan is also planning to pick up impatiens to plant around the garden bed with the child reading.

The fiber optic line to the library will be extended to a number of Hardin County buildings. Some of the work will involve extra cabling in the library. Dan will insist that nothing external would show in the meeting room.

The library has received one package of Legos donated to the library. Dan is hoping for several more containers so that programming can be planned. Legos would only be used for programming not accessible at all times like the Duplos.

NEXT MEETING: May 29, 2012 5:00 pm.
