Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees
January 29, 2013
PRESENT: Dean Stickrod, Mary Swartz, Jill Stanish, Lou Schafer, Kristin Gehrke, Dan Gehring
MINUTES approved.
Discussed bills. Dan had been unable to obtain a book through interlibrary loan and wanted to purchase
for the library. Board recommended not purchasing as the topic was not of general interest.
BILLS approved with the exception of the one $49 book.
One interlibrary loan book has been lost. Reimbursement will be sought from the patron.
Ian spoke about the budget anticipating a reduction in the budget amount approved. Ian recommended
moving $3000 from the budget and putting in the trust. Ian expected the $19,000 from Local Option Sales
Tax to remain. Dan will meet with the Finance Committee to make some revisions to submitted amounts
and turn in changes to Ian by Monday.
Discussed library levy. Ian was not sure if there was an ending; may possibly be a 10 year period. Levy
would yield 27 cents per $1000 assessed value from taxpayers within the city limits. Ian recommended
the board start discussing the option within two months. If decided, it would need to go to City Council
and the levy wording would have to be finalized 68 days before the November 2013 election. Library
budget funds cannot be used to fund promotion of a levy, nor can staff work on promoting during work
A bridge club at the library has been formed to help fund the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Mary
asked if patrons who did not know how to play bridge could attend. Dan will check with the coordinators.
The library has a new resource available on the website called Learning Express. It is paid for through the
A winter book sale has been scheduled for Saturday, February 23. The sale will include weeded books
along with donated books.
The Endowment Fund has reached $10,000. The Friends treasurer receives the statements.
Discussed heating and cooling. Lou talked with Tom McDonald from New Providence about an estimate;
he’ll be in touch with Dan.
Dollar General offers a Summer Reading Grant for up to $3000. Dan will be applying for that. Susan is
interested in purchasing an art cart and a puppet theatre.
Board approved designating the previous book sale donations for purchasing AV materials.
