July 23, 2013
PRESENT: Dean Stickrod, Mary Swartz, Jerry Trittien, Jill Stanish, Dan Gehring
MINUTES approved. BILLS approved.
Dan gave Director’s Report.
Discussed a library levy. Board felt that more trustees should be in attendance before making a final
decision about whether to pursue a levy this fall.
Dan shared a note he had received from Jan Dunn, resigning from the Library Board. Dan suggested that
people be thinking of possible candidates to finish out her term.
New locks are in place on men’s restroom door as well as the new storage closets in the meeting room.
Locks work with existing keys for the library.
Summer Reading Program has finished and the pool party will be Saturday, July 27. Dan summarized the
programs and which were the most attended. Reading logs with weekly prizes were very successful.
Special programs and preschool programs were both well attended. Toddler program was not well
attended but Susan felt it was worth doing even in a small group. Elementary program was not well
attended and would probably not be done again.
The art times were fair to good attendance and Susan plans to try it again. ICN programs would not be
done in the future unless Tiger PACK was interested. Lego time was very popular and would definitely
do again. And the Family Hour was not well attended and would not do again.
The library book sale will be Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27 during the Pine Lake Festival. A
number of volunteers had signed up to help set up for the sale on Thursday. Saturday at 3:30 pm, a
presenter from The Iowa Department of Transportation will talk about early transportation in Iowa.
Dan had updated bids on color copiers. Board approved the purchase of a Kyocera machine; Hecht &
Jiminez Office Machines from Iowa Falls will service. Funds will come from line items for copy
machine for $700 and $1000 from furniture and equipment with the balance to be taken from the Special
