Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees

November 26, 2013


PRESENT: Dean Stickrod, Mary Swartz, Jerry Trittien, Jill Stanish, Kristin Gehrke, Jackie Winters, Dan Gehring


MINUTES approved. BILLS approved.


Director’s Report

  • Jackie Winters has officially been appointed to the Library Board.

  • Beacon is not currently taking on new libraries but may do so in the future.

  • Dan submitted the State Technology grant. Winners will be notified in December.

  • Downspout has been repaired.

  • 50+ children attended the Halloween event.

  • Curt Wical has volunteered to help with movie & discussion program for adults

  • Dan shared Fall Survey Results

  • Dan encouraged board members to check out the Indieflix website regarding a library subscription to access a collection of independent films. Decision was tabled until next month.

  • United Methodist Women donated $100 for children’s books and a thank you note was sent.

  • Discussed computer maintenance plan; it was decided to continue to pay for services as needed

  • Dan donated a computer monitor for use in the office.

  • Discussed applying for HCCEF grant; board suggested applying for money for books.

  • Saturday, December 14, Santa visits the library.

  • Library has $1644.86 from Enrich Iowa to be used by the end of the fiscal year.


The Department of Economic Development has encouraged the creation of a business directory. The library will have control of the content; users will be able to link from the city website to the business directory on the library’s website. An Experience Works person will hopefully assist in creating the directory.


Discussed Long Range Plan and tentative goals for 2014 and subsequent years. Dan will finalize a draft and share at the next meeting.


Dan talked with Tracie Penning about pairing up high school students with senior patrons interested in learning more about technology. Students would earn Silver Cord hours for volunteering.


Discussed spending up to $200 for the Volunteer Recognition Lunch on Wednesday, December 4. Board approved.


Dan will meet with Finance Committee regarding a budget recommendation prior to next board meeting.
