March 2014

Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees

March 25, 2014

PRESENT: Dean Stickrod, Jerry Trittien, Kristin Gehrke, Lou Schafer, Dan Gehring, Jill Stanish

The meeting was called to order and two representatives from Iowa Valley Community College were given the floor. Possible classes to be offered were discussed. They said that if we have someone with a willingness to teach, they can call Deb Sabin and she can set up a class. Deadline for classes to be included in the fall Edventure Catalog would be May.  Classes can still be added even if they don't appear in the catalog. Board will brainstorm some choices and get back to Deb. Suggested teachers included Curt Lambertson for gardening and Kay Roelfsema for writing.

MINUTES were approved. BILLS were approved with the addition of two items: $144 for the keypad for the furnace and $21.58 for office supplies from Monkeytown. Dan also mentioned that Siemens charge for the library’s service plan would be coming due soon. Board approved payment of that bill when it arrives.

Dan gave Director's report. Zoske electric charged $170 to get the furnace working.

The library did receive the grant requested from Hardin County Community Endowment Fund. Dan plans to attend the April 10 awards ceremony but said others would be welcome to attend as well.

Dan talked with the Grand Theatre board and they were receptive to helping advertise movies shown at the library. They didn't feel that was competition but rather another way to serve the public.

Dan had no news about joining Beacon. They've had some server problems.

Dan shared the specific laptop that Susan requested to use for children's programming.  Price is $749.99 and comes with a 1 year warranty on parts and labor. The Tender Sprouts line item in the special Library trust will be put toward the purchase in the amount of $677.38.  Remaining balance will come from the State of Iowa Open Access Plus line item.

NEIBORS will be coming up for renewal. Board approved paying for an additional year. The possibility of offering a class for patrons on how to use NEIBORS was also discussed.

NEXT MEETING: April 29, 2014 at 5:00 pm.
