Eldora Public Library Board of Trustees

June 24, 2014

PRESENT: Jerry Trittien, Kristin Gehrke, Lou Schafer, Jackie Winters, Jill Stanish, Dan Gehring

Ian reported that street construction has had some delays. He also indicated that lines in the library parking lot will be painted at the same time that street parking lines are done.

MINUTES were approved. BILLS were approved.

Dan gave Director’s Report. Library book sale will take place Saturday, July 26 during the Pine Lake Festival. Susie Reece may be able to get a tent to use for the sale.

Friends of the Library donated $2000 for books which helped cover shortfalls in the book budget. The Friends has begun to receive interest from the Endowment Fund. Ian suggested the library give information to local lawyers about the Library’s Endowment Fund as an option for estate planning.

Additional mulch was laid in the bed with newly planted hostas. Kristin talked with Adam Rains about landscaping. He suggested removing one of the spirea that is dying and pruning the remaining. Jerry removed the dying rose bush; space will be left as is. He also pruned and cleared around another rose bush that is now blooming.

An instance came up with a patron bringing a dog into the library. Due to hygienic concerns and potential for fleas (along with costly carpet cleaning) Board agreed to have Dan draft a policy banning all but service animals from the library.

Dan asked whether the library should be open on Saturday, July 5. With the 4th falling on a Friday, it was agreed the library should be closed on Saturday as well.

Susan requested that her job title be changed from Children’s Librarian to Children’s Librarian/Librarian. Board approved the change.

Dan requested pick-up trucks to help transport books for the library sale. Jerry and Kristin may be able to assist with that.
