The Library is seeking enthusiastic candidates for the following positions:

 

 

 

Job Title: Assistant Library Director/Youth Services Coordinator

 

General Description:

Process and maintains the library collection and assists groups and individuals in locating and obtaining materials. Furnishes information on library activities, facilities, rules and services. Educates and assists library users in the use of library resources. Issues and receives materials for circulation and use in library. Assists with programming and oversees Youth Service Librarian.

 

Reporting Relationship(s):

Reports to: Library Director

Supervises: Youth Services Librarian/Volunteers as directed by the Library Director

 

Characteristic Duties:

  • Maintains a working knowledge of library management through continuing education and shared office duties.

  • Shares in the duties of the Library Director as directed.

  • Manages the circulation desk including overdue and lost materials.

  • Organizes and performs duties connected with special library projects and programming at the request of the Library Director.

  • Operates the Interlibrary Loan System.

  • Plans and organizes the summer reading program.

  • Performs the functions of the Library Director in the absence of the Director.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work all hours of library operations, including evenings and weekends.

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

  • Experience in Management.

  • Ability to perform quality customer service for library patrons of all ages.

  • Experience with computer systems (word processing, database, spreadsheets, Internet).

  • Ability to use a computer, copy machine, and other office equipment.

  • Must be able to pass city mandated background, drug and physical test

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a library setting

  • Familiarity with books and other library resources.

  • Meets Iowa Librarian standards.

Library Clerk

 

General Description


Works under the supervision of the Director.
Assists in the day-to-day operation of the library.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION OF LIBRARY CLERK
Checks books/materials in and out.
Answers reference questions or refers them to the Director.
Answers readers’ advisory inquiries.
Re-shelve books.
Reads shelves.

Other assignments as delegated by the Director.

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE POSITION OF LIBRARY CLERK

Graduation from high school (or equivalent) is recommended.
Positive attitude toward working with the public and the Director and other staff.
Typing skills highly recommended.
Computer skills highly recommended.
Knowledge of and dexterity in alphabetizing and in chronological ordering.
Physical ability to perform the work assigned.
Willingness to learn new skills.
Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to work under supervision as well as on own.

Available to work any open hours of library, including Saturday mornings.
