New: E-Readers at the Library Thanks to HCCEF
Thanks go to the Hardin County Community Endowment Foundation for its gift
of $425.00 to help purchase six e-book readers for the library. The
e-readers the library purchased are the Kindle Touch model.
The
library will use these e-readers on those occasions when it makes more sense
to provide patrons an e-book instead of a paper book.
Sometimes an e-book is the only format available.
Another reason to use
e-books is fast delivery. Typically we'll fill your request with a paper book, but if appropriate we have the capability to provide same day e-book delivery.
The ability of the readers to make the font bigger opens up a universe of e-books available for our large print readers.
Sometimes using e-books is going to save us money. Many e-books are
cheaper than regular books. If we have a request for a book no one else
is likely to read and we can't get it through interlibrary loan we'll consider getting an e-book. There may also be times when an e-book
may be cheaper than postage and save us money from doing an interlibrary
loan. There may even be times when an e-book is free.
One thing I want to point out is that the Kindles are registered to the library and
can't be used by patrons to download books or access the NEIBORS service.
